Seminar: “The inclusion of people with special educational needs in higher education”

To celebrate Municipal Equality Day, on 24 October at 2 p.m., in the José Bayolo Pacheco de Amorim auditorium at the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar, a seminar will be held on ‘The inclusion of people with special educational needs in higher education’.
According to the programme, there will be lectures by various experts, namely from the National Rehabilitation Institute, and a discussion forum to reflect on the topics covered.
The aim of this event is to understand the extent to which higher education is prepared to receive students with special educational needs, promote equity and equal opportunities, raise awareness among the academic community and the region, and share good practices.
National and international legislation (such as the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) requires higher education institutions to promote inclusion. Discussing the topic is also a way of ensuring that these standards are understood and applied.
Inclusion benefits the entire academic community by promoting more flexible and student-centred teaching methodologies, which improves learning for all.
The seminar aims to contribute to the development of a more equitable, accessible and high-quality higher education system.

This initiative is part of IPT's Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Plan 2025-2028.
Participation is free of charge, but registration is required via the link: https://forms.office.com/e/PNcNRfCt1B.

All registered participants will be entitled to a certificate of participation.
