On the 24th of October, the Polytechnic of Tomar celebrated the Day of Municipal Equality in partnership with the Intermunicipal Community of Médio Tejo - CIMT.
In an event open to the general public, the IPT presented the evolution of the number of teaching staff, non-teaching staff and students over the last ten years from the perspective of gender equality and Dr Jorge Simões - CIMT presented the Médio Tejo Project in Equality, where he mentioned the paths taken towards equal opportunities and non-discrimination in the Médio Tejo region.
In line with the Portugal + Equal 2018-2030 National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination, the 13 municipalities of the Médio Tejo region and the Polytechnic of Tomar have equality plans which aim to implement actions that promote equal treatment and opportunities between men and women, as well as the reconciliation of work and personal and family life.
The event also included a space for debate, with the participation of Tomar City Council and IPT partner companies such as Softinsa, Critical Software and Kyndryl, which reinforced the importance of formal and non-formal education as the first step towards a world with more gender equality.
The initiative took place as part of the Polytechnic of Tomar's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Plan (accessible here): http://www.diversidadeinclusao.ipt.pt/pt/plano_de_igualdade/
